GETTING kids interested in gardening and away from the X-Box or Playstation is a challenge for any parent or grandparent.

However this book, with its projects and tasks that will appeal to the imagination, is a step in the right direction. Clare Matthews is a British garden designer with three young children so she speaks from practical experience.

The step-by-step guide to various projects falls under four sections: Fun with Plants; Growing Food; Wildlife in the Garden: and Things to Make and Do. Favourites for older kids will be the construction of a mosaic sundial and a weather station.

This worthwhile book has a range of projects broad enough to appeal to various age-groups.
