Oswald Blumhardt
New Zealand Plant Pioneer

Catherine Ballard
David Ling
Distributed by David Bateman
$NZ39.99

Os Blumhardt, collector, traveller, propagator and nurseryman was one of New Zealand's most notable plantsman.

Ballard's biography of the Northland man traces his expeditions to Borneo, Thailand, Vietnam, New Guinea and Fiji to gather the raw material for his extensive collection.

The book, with its detailed description gives a fascinating insight into Os's hybridising prowess, particularly with magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons. A fitting tribute to a man who left a lasting legacy for Kiwi gardeners.
