Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ)  

Plants are critical for life and Botanic Gardens are essential for us to be able to preserve and learn about plants.

New Zealand Education Trust / Young Horticulturist of the Year NZET

Established by the RNZIH and aims to assist and promote, in any way possible, horticultural training and education in New Zealand, including promoting and providing scholarships and prize schemes for young people in horticulture. The Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition is organised by the NZET.

New Zealand Gardens Trust NZGT

Established by the RNZIH and aims to promote the best in New Zealand gardens and horticulture. The NZGT website features a nationwide database of public and private gardens to visit.

New Zealand Notable Trees Trust NZNTT

Also established by the RNZIH, in association with the NZ Arboricultural Association. This trust continues the national scheme established in 1978 to identify and register heritage trees.

New Zealand Arboricultural Association NZARB

NZ Arb's mission statement is to encourage, foster, improve and educate in all aspects of arboriculture in New Zealand.

New Zealand Professional Florists Inc. NZPF

A non-profit making organisation founded with the sole objective of raising the national standards of floristry.

Naturally Native NZ Plants Naturally Native

Specialist growers of New Zealand native plants since 1980. Their website includes an online plant catalogue.

New Zealand PlantFinder NZ Plant Finder

Beginning in 1995 Meg Gaddum published four PlantFinder books and went on create an online database of >50,000 plants listed from NZ nursery catalogues. This online database was available up to 2011. The web address ( now redirects to Meg's Facebook page which contains a wide range of posts about plants.

"Gateway to the Nursery Industry in New Zealand". Broad site covering everything in the gardening, nursery and horticulture industries. Commercial Horticulture Magazine, Trade Days, Nursery Registers, seed suppliers, Reference Publishing, gardening, plants.

Kiwi Gardener  

Website of New Zealand's fortnightly do-it-yourself consumer gardening magazine, previously known as the Weekend Gardener. The magazine provides gardening and horticultural information of wide interest, some of which has been reproduced on the RNZIH website.



Bonsai in New Zealand

New Zealand Bonsai Association

New Zealand Bonsai Association, the nationally recognised portal and repository for information about the New Zealand bonsai scene.

Auckland Branch of the Cactus and Succulent Society of New Zealand CSSNZ

Provides information for members and the general public to learn more about cacti and succulent plants.

National Daffodil Society of New Zealand  

The purpose of the National Daffodil Society is to promote, appreciate and preserve New Zealand's daffodils.

National Dahlia Society of New Zealand  

"Founded in 1938 and is an organisation set up to promote our favourite flower the dahlia, and to offer guidance and advice on the cultivation and showing of dahlias in New Zealand."

New Zealand Alpine Garden Society NZAGS

The NZAGS hold monthly meetings in Christchurch and have an annual seed exchange list.

New Zealand Camellia Society

Orchid Council of New Zealand  

The Orchid Council of New Zealand is a federation of independent, autonomous, orchid societies throughout New Zealand.

New Zealand Plant Protection Society NZPPS

Their main objective: "To pool and exchange information on the biology of weeds, invertebrate and vertebrate pests, pathogens and beneficial organisms and methods for modifying their effects."

New Zealand Rhododendron Association  

An Association formed in 1944 that promotes all aspects of Rhododendron growing in New Zealand.

Weedbusters New Zealand Weedbusters

Weedbusters is a weeds awareness and education programme that aims to protect New Zealand's environment from the increasing weed problem.

The International Plant Names Index (IPNI) IPNI

Database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants. IPNI is the product of a collaboration between The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The Harvard University Herbaria, and the Australian National Herbarium.

The Plant List  

An excellent working list of all known plant species.

Tree of Life web project Tree of Life

A collaborative effort of biologists from around the world. On more than 10,000 webpages, the project provides information about biodiversity, the characteristics of different groups of organisms, and their evolutionary history (phylogeny).


American Horticultural Society (AHS) American Horticultural Society

The AHS is an educational, non-profit, organisation that recognises and promotes excellence in American horticulture.

Chartered Institute of Horticulture — UK & Ireland IoH
