THE re-publication of this renowned plantsman's books (his Rose Book was reviewed recently) ensures his work lives on after his death in 2003 as a resource for the keen gardener.

This classic covers geology (albeit British) and the historical introduction of alpine plants. It has practical advice on the choice of suitable plants and details how to create a rock garden. Most of the plates are in black and white but some illustrations, among them the author's own, are in colour.

A book for the enthusiast.
