Flies in worm compost

I am trying to recycle as much as possible. I have a worm box, but every time I open it up at this time of the year miriads of tiny black flies rush out. Any ideas on stopping this otherwise am thinking of giving up — don't want my house filled with flies.

It is normal for flies to be part of the compost process. If your worm box generates enough heat, the fly larvae will be controlled naturally.
